Argentina legend Lionel Messi has suggested he will feature at the 2030 World Cup.
Messi became the World Cup’s all-time record goalscorer as his double against Austria sent Argentina into the last 32 as they top Group J.
Argentina, with six points, now join Mexico, the United States and Germany in having qualified for the last 32 and will hope that Messi can continue to shine bright at the World Cup at 39 years old.
Reports suggested before the tournament that this would be Messi’s final World Cup, as when the next one rolls around in 2030, the legendary forward will be 43 years old.
However, speaking this week, he did not rule out joining the Argentina squad who would no doubt be delighted to see him take part despite what might be an age barrier.
“I don’t know. The truth is, I’m not thinking about that right now. It seems a bit far off but, as I said, I’m living one day at a time and focused on the present,” Messi told reporters, per ANI.
“Yes, yes… I will continue for some time, as long as I can contribute, feel good physically, and help my teammates… I will keep playing.”
A record eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Messi looks better than ever for both Argentina and Inter Miami and there is no reason why he cannot compete at the World Cup if he decides to.
