Membership e-registration: APC targets 9m members next week

• Warns factional members against abstaining from exercise

From Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed that the ruling party is targeting over nine million digitally verifiable registered members by the end of next week in the ongoing E-registration exercise across the country.

National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who briefed newsmen at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja yesterday, also disclosed that over two million members have already been registered barely one week into the commencement of the exercise.

The national leadership, however, warned members in some states where there are factional members to eschew divisions and ensure they participate in the registration exercise.

I “I will give a directive that before the end of January, we want all our members to be digitally identified. The significance of the registration is underscored by the fact that data is very important to operational efficiency of any organisation, no less that of the political party that thrive on mobilisation, organisation, and consultation of leaders.

“The national chairman also urged the state coordinators to ensure that the exercise is in full trot before the end of the week. And of course, any states that is found wanting, we at the NWC have been given the latitude to change the status of state coordinators if they are not on-going.

“And of course, we also have the mandate to take a look at the state-by-state affairs of the membership registration. We are happy to inform the Nigerian people that as of today, just a week into the exercise, with many of the states yet to even start in full trotting, Nigerians who are registered to be members of APC are already in excess of two million members.

“They can be digitally verified and have their name and also have their voter identification number. We emphasise that in a couple of days, particularly when we will be making another assessment by next week, we should be in the region of about eight or nine million in membership, by the grace of God,” he revealed.

The APC scribe added: “What is also important is to say that we want our stakeholders in all states to take this exercise very seriously. It stands at the root of ensuring that we have an organic party that is a sink in mobilizing Nigerians for the support of the renewal of our agenda of our president, Bola Tinubu.

“We also commend the involvement of all our party stakeholders at the state level. They have committed time, energy, and resources in mobilizing for the success of the exercise.”

While advising factional members to go and register, the party’s chief scribe said: “If you cast your mind back at the last meeting, Mr. President, who is the leader of the party stated that nobody, no group, should be denied the opportunity of being registered.

“The exercise is being done in the way that every group, every functional interest, every personal freedom is being taken care of. This is the decision of NEC. So let us first register our members then when it comes to contest, people can now contest. No group, no faction is being legitimated or disallowed from registering. It is a question of income,” he warned.
