Meeza, born Toluwalashe Azeem Adumadeyin, is a sonic marvel to behold. With his rubbery vocals and feel-good lyricism, the 19-year-old musician is making a mark for himself across Afrobeats’ newest catalogue.
With emotive releases like his recently-released bop, ‘Yawa’, Meeza, whose anadromous name spotlights his wits, is set to become a household name across Afrobeats-loving scenes.
Prior to his evolution as a popstar, Meeza began his career as an emcee writing rap songs circa 2015. However, his professional debut as a singer came in the middle of the pandemic, in 2020.
After a slew of cover freestyles which he posted on social media and other promising solo records, Meeza cemented his star potential with his Zinoleesky-assisted song, ‘Gbona’, earlier this year. With his impeccable control, Meeza blurs stereotypes around street-pop, showcasing refined musicality in each song release.
Tracing his earliest influences to singers like Wande Coal, Meeza believes he’s set to make a difference within Afrobeats, noting that “it feels like I am actually getting closer to my dreams.”
The young maverick also announced his forthcoming project called, Different Breed, which is scheduled for release next year.
For Meeza, while only time would tell if he’s going to stay at the top, one thing is sure and that’s his relentless sprint towards it.
