Convener of Nigeria First, Sunday Onyewonsa, has fired back at a suspended councillor from Ukwani Local Government Area in Delta State, who had allegedly defamed the Commissioner for Finance, Okenmor Fidelis Tilije, over his source of wealth.

He described Tilije as a model of hard work, integrity, excellence and honesty as he highlighted Tilije’s impressive career, including his tenure as Managing Director of the defunct Fortunes Bank.

He said Tilije’s rise to prominence serves as an inspiration to younger generations.

He warned the suspended councillor of dire consequences for criminal defamation, as he urged him to refrain from making unsubstantiated claims and to respect the commissioner’s reputation.

He wondered why people still engage in the act of pull “him down syndrome,” saying for some considerations, the attacker would have been answering questions on criminal defamation.

“Tilije was first appointed Commissioner for Water Resources, and later, Commissioner for Finance by the immediate past administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and retained by the current administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, due to his excellent-driven professional aptitude and his team leadership prowess. He has served and still serving the good people of Delta State without blemish. He is a quintessential asset with a heart of gold to men of goodwill,” he said.
