McGregor, devastated: “I’m beyond depressed

Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon wasn’t what everyone expected. After five years away, the Irish fighter only lasted three seconds when he threw a kick, before injuring his right knee and having to retire in the first round. The referee stopped the fight, awarding the victory to a jubilant Max Holloway, who approached his opponent to ask about his condition after the bout. The Irish fighter explained what happened on his social media, putting an end to any rumors of a possible injury before the fight.

“My engine just died. I’m devastated. I had no injuries before the fight. I was throwing kicks, planting, and jumping throughout camp and also backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I’m beyond depressed here. I can only describe it as hell,” McGregor posted on his X profile.

What was expected to be a triumphant return for the Irish fighter turned into a nightmare. At this time, no timeline has been given for his recovery. “We assume he tore his ACL. The doctors think so too,” said Dana White after the fight.

The UFC will have to wait if they want to see ‘The Notorious’ back in the octagon, but most fans of the sport are hopeful it will be soon.
