Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has called on Muslim faithful to use the occasion of the Eid el-Maulud celebration to promote peace, compassion, tolerance and unity in the state and across Nigeria. Otu made the call in a goodwill message issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
The governor urged Muslims to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of the Prophet, particularly his virtues of faith, humility, sacrifice, justice and service to humanity.
He described the Maulud celebration as an opportunity for Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect on values capable of strengthening peaceful coexistence and social harmony.
“The life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad remains an enduring testament to faith, compassion, humility, sacrifice and unyielding devotion to the service of humanity,” Otu said.
He urged the faithful to move beyond the festivities and embrace the virtues of love, generosity and justice, particularly towards the vulnerable and less privileged.
According to him, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad provide timeless guidance for building a society where every individual is treated with dignity, fairness and compassion.

“This sacred celebration offers us a moment to reflect anew on the profound virtues he embodied—love for neighbour, generosity to the vulnerable, justice for all and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
Otu assured Muslim faithful in Cross River that his administration would continue to promote inclusiveness, mutual respect and religious harmony in the state. He said the government would sustain efforts to preserve Cross River’s cultural and religious diversity while ensuring that citizens, irrespective of their faith or background, enjoyed dignity, security and a sense of belonging.
“We shall continue to cherish the rich tapestry of our diversity and promote an environment in which every citizen, regardless of faith or background, can live with dignity, security and a profound sense of belonging,” the governor said.
He urged Muslim faithful to make the virtues associated with Maulud a part of their daily lives and contribute to building a peaceful and united society.
“Let the spirit of Maulud transcend the festivities, becoming a living call to kindness, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity,” Otu admonished.
The governor prayed for Allah’s blessings, peace and prosperity for Muslim families and the people of Cross River State.
“May the noble lessons of the Prophet Muhammad continue to guide us towards a more united, peaceful and prosperous Cross River State,” he said.
