A top contender for the Benue South senatorial seat, Dr. David Olofu, has donated N10 million to support all pregnant women that will be receiving care at St Helen’s Specialist Hospital, Otukpo, Benue State.
The endowment fund, which was announced recently, was designed to ease the financial burden faced by expectant mothers, reduce maternal and infant mortality and improve access to quality maternal healthcare.
Olofu, who spoke during a visit to the hospital, emphasised that the wellbeing of women and children forms the backbone of his developmental vision for Benue South. He added that the fund would strengthen support for families that often struggle with the cost of essential medical services.
He reiterated that maternal health was not just a medical issue but a foundation for building prosperous families and a stronger society.
According to him, leadership must be demonstrated through action and not mere rhetoric and promises, stressing that no woman in Benue South should be denied quality healthcare due to financial constraints.
He said his intervention was a practical step towards bridging the gap in maternal care, advancing healthcare, education and social welfare across the senatorial district.
He noted that his leadership would be rooted in service, compassion and genuine commitment to the people, pledging to expand the initiative to elevate the quality of life for all constituents of Benue South.
The management of St. Helen’s Specialist Hospital expressed profound gratitude for the donation, describing it as a timely and impactful intervention that would directly benefit pregnant women, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.
The management applauded Olofu for his consistent display of leadership steeped in empathy and community development.
Across Otukpo and the wider Benue South, community members hailed the gesture as another clear signal that Olofu remains deeply connected to the needs of his people.
Beneficiaries and residents noted that his philanthropic initiatives had continued to bring hope and relief, especially at a time when many families were faced with hardship.
