Viral video from Yoruba movie — Osun police deny officers fled from drone

The Osun State Police Command has debunked a viral video purportedly showing its officers running away from a drone, saying the footage was taken from a Yoruba movie set and not an operational incident.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a Wednesday statement.

Sharing the video, an X user, Itsede Okhai, had claimed a passerby used a drone to scare off police officers allegedly extorting motorists in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

However, the command described the narrative as “false and misleading.”

According to the police, the clip is from a Yoruba film production titled “Omije Fun Omije Part 2”, filmed around minute 39:08 in May 2026.

“A police patrol vehicle was used on the set and in the scene, an actor in police uniform was momentarily left outside the moving van, ran after it, and boarded,” the statement reads in part.

The command explained that a bystander who was not part of the film crew recorded that moment, “tagged it as police officers running from drone and posted it.”

It added that the drone visible in the clip was the one used to film the movie.

“The command rejects any narrative that serving officers ‘ran away’ from a drone. That claim is damaging to the reputation of the force, and inconsistent with the facts known to the command,” Ojelabi stated.

The police accused media outlets of failing to verify before publishing, saying: “Investigative journalism requires verification before a clip is given a national or international frame. Publishing out-of-context footage and attaching a false explanation is not a minor error when it is used to ridicule a security institution.”

The command called on a national television station and others circulating the video to: retract the false caption and narrative; issue a correction stating the clip was from a movie production, not an operational incident; and desist from presenting staged or unrelated footage as evidence of police cowardice or misconduct

“We remain open to factual reporting. What we will not accept is the deliberate distortion of images, videos or any media report to drag the Command through the mud,” the statement further reads.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to lawful, professional policing in Osun State.
