The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council against making empty promises, declaring that their performance in the 2027 general election will be assessed by their ability to deliver votes at the grassroots.
Masari, who spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, said the era of party chieftains claiming to command huge votes without tangible results in their states, local government areas, wards and polling units must end.
He disclosed that serious assessment mechanisms would be introduced to measure the performance of campaign officials, insisting that rewards would be based on actual results rather than political rhetoric and inflated figures.
“This time around, we must move beyond making empty promises and announcing figures that cannot be delivered. The government will put in place serious assessment mechanisms to assess everyone’s performance based on their actual results at the grassroots, not the volume of their talks or promises,” he said.
“Everyone should be rewarded according to their performance, and it can no longer be business as usual where people claim to deliver huge numbers but cannot deliver their own state, local government, ward or even their polling unit.”
The presidential aide charged members of the council to redirect their attention from political meetings and activities in Abuja to direct engagement with voters, arguing that elections are won through effective mobilisation at the grassroots.
According to him, campaign officials must concentrate on polling units, wards, local governments and communities rather than spend their time opening party offices, holding unnecessary meetings and engaging in endless political debates.
“Politics is not about opening and painting offices, pettiness, unnecessary talk or endless debates. Politics is at the grassroots; it is about our polling units, wards, local governments and communities,” Masari said.
He urged members to reduce unnecessary visits to Abuja and party offices, as well as excessive directorate meetings, and instead devote their time to convincing voters and winning their support.
“Stop talking to yourselves and start talking to the people,” he declared.
Masari also warned campaigners against gossip, hate speech and internal divisions, urging them to embrace discipline, teamwork and politics without bitterness.

He said the council must prioritise the collective interest of the APC over personal ambitions and work towards the success of all party candidates in the 2027 elections.
Addressing the Director-General of the council, Abdulaziz Yari, Masari said the party leadership had confidence in his ability to unite members, coordinate their activities and ensure that everyone worked towards a common goal.
“Your task is to unite us, harness our collective strengths and ensure that every member works as part of one disciplined, purposeful and winning team,” he said.
Masari said the campaign would focus on the Tinubu administration’s policies, achievements and future plans, particularly in education, healthcare, economic reforms and infrastructure development.
He urged members to highlight investments in roads, railways, ports, power and other critical infrastructure while explaining how the government’s interventions were intended to boost productivity, create opportunities and promote sustainable development.
He also cautioned against campaigns built on empty promises, urging members to communicate the administration’s record honestly, acknowledge outstanding challenges and respond to voters’ concerns with facts.
“We must listen as much as we speak, engage respectfully, answer concerns with facts and demonstrate through our actions that public trust is a responsibility we take seriously,” he said.
Masari described the assignment as a sacred trust from Tinubu, insisting that every ward and community must be reached and every eligible voter given the opportunity to hear the party’s message.
He pledged that the council would work to secure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, expressing confidence that its members would deliver more votes for the President than all opposition parties combined.
“I want to use this opportunity on behalf of the members of this council to assure Mr President that the votes that will be secured by all the opposition parties put together will not reach half of what this council will deliver for you,” he said.
“That, we promise and by the grace of Allah we will deliver.”
