Scores of Islamic scholars, including Mariya Bayero, converged in the ancient city of Kano yesterday for a peace prayer and for the final of the Quranic recitation competition.

Former ministerial nominee in the Tinubu administration, Dr. Maryam Shetty, organized the Islamic competition.

Addressing the participants at the event, the Shetty explained that the vision of recitation competition was born with the aim “to give young Nigerians the same grounding, hope, and strength that the Qur’an has always given me.”

“We live in an age where digital platforms often amplify noise, discord, and distractions. But rather than abandon these spaces, I asked myself: why not reclaim them? Why not transform TikTok and Instagram from playgrounds of frivolity into platforms of faith, beauty, and reflection,” she added.

She offered gratitude to Allah at the success of the competition and expressed hope that the project would uplift humanity above the minimum benchmark and offer a good life to an ideal Muslim.

Several Islamic scholars at the event lauded the initiative, offered special prayers for peace and sought divine guidance for leaders as they strive to lead the nation to prosperity.

In her brief remarks, Mariya Bayero commended the organiser for initiating the competition and urged the youths to be patriotic by dedicating themselves to Nigeria’s unity, peace, and progress.

The three top winners of the Quranic competition received N250,000 for third place, N500,000 for second place, and N1 million for first place, respectively.
