Maria Ude Nwachi, a former minority leader in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, has emerged as the standard-bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District for next year’s general election.
Addressing journalists in Abakaliki after emerging as the candidate during the party’s primaries, the female politician expressed excitement to fly the ticket of the PDP, reiterating her firm belief that the party would cruise home to victory at the polls.
“I thank all the delegates for the enormous love and support shown me at the primary election. This is just the start.
“All that I will tell you is that God has remembered us through my being in this race. As you see me here right now, I don’t have much need of my own. All I need is to eliminate, or at least drastically reduce, the burdens on my people and beyond. My people of Afikpo can confirm that all my years in and out of politics have been about lifting people out of poverty and suffering.

“What I will do in the Nigerian Senate with human empowerment and development, Nigeria has never seen it before! I will build men. It is not a boast but a fact and a reality. I said I would serve myself last during my time in the House of Assembly, but I ended up not serving myself at all, as I used my personal money to fund all the multi-million-naira projects I carried out during my tenure.
“I have returned to politics to continue serving the people. I will go hungry for my people to eat, and I won’t sleep comfortably with light while they remain in darkness. The entire Ebonyi South is going to be the envy of all districts in Nigeria and beyond; they will feel me for real,” she maintained.
