An Anambra State indigene, Ugochukwu Chukka Onyeka, has sent a save-our-souls to Governor Charles Soludo to look into the incessant killings by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and ‘Unknown Gunmen.’
Onyeka said he had to flee the state after the murder of his family members by suspected IPOB gunmen.
According to him, his father was opposed to the activities of IPOB for many years, and they warned that he would be killed, if he continued, but he would not relent.
Narrating his ordeal, Onyeka said, “It all began with my father, Chika Onyeka, the village leader of Aguluezechukwu, Anambra State. He was a man of principle. He spoke against the IPOB’s violence and stood for peace. He worked with authorities to expose IPOB’s activities and because of this he was marked for death.
“For months, IPOB harassed him. Threats came in whispers, anonymous notes, and masked men knocking on our doors. My father refused to back down. He was threatened through incessant WhatsApp calls, but he was not bothered.
“On the faithful day in November 2024, they came for him. It was past midnight. I woke up to hear gunshots and screaming by residents. They were shouting that the house was on fire. Really, the fire was raging; the heat, the smoke, the screams were too much. There was confusion everywhere.
“In the midst of the confusion, my father was shot dead right in our compound. My wife, Mirian, tried to escape but she was caught in the fire. She suffered severe burns and died in the hospital days later.
“My uncle, Moses Onyeka, was also in the house that night. He tried to run but he was shot before they set the house ablaze. I narrowly escaped death by divine intervention. Since that night, IPOB has continued to trail me. I have received countless warnings: “Leave, or you will die like your father.” I knew they would get me if I did not run away from Nigeria because their network is too powerful.
“They have destroyed my business, taken my passport, and forced me into hiding. I have lost everything—my family, my home, my livelihood.
“I cannot return to Nigeria. If I do, I will be killed. I am in Ireland now, desperately seeking protection. If I am sent back, I know I will suffer the same fate as my father.
“I never imagined my life would come to this—running, hiding, living in fear every single day. But this is my reality. And unless I find safety, I know my story will end the same way my father’s did.
“My life is in serious danger. IPOB, a deadly terrorist group, is after me. They have already killed my father, my wife, and my uncle, and now they are hunting me.
“I do not trust the security agencies. They have failed me and my family. No matter how many times we cried out for help, nothing was done.
“I am not in Nigeria but I am appealing to Governor Soludo to do something urgent because of innocent people in the state.”
