Man, 70, denies sleeping with girl, 15

A 70-year-old man arrested for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl has denied having sexual intercourse with her, but admitted he only romanced her.

According to the suspect, Michael Afolabi, who is being interrogated at Lagos State Police Command, “I am an old man who is suffering from weak erection. So my penis is too weak to penetrate any woman’s private part. So, I only romanced her.”

According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundyin, “on September 27, 2024, at about Noon, a case of defilement was transferred from Iju Police Division to Gender Unit of Lagos State Police Command for discreet investigation.

“The case was reported by the complainant on behalf of her daughter, 11 years old. The complainant alleged that sometime in July (between) when schools were on vacation and when the schools resumed this year 2024, the survivor was defiled by the suspect.

“She stated further that the suspect had sexual intercourse with the survivor multiple times.

“The suspect was cautioned in English Language and he confessed that he romanced the survivor; he denied having sexual intercourse with her, claiming that he had been suffering from weak erection for many years now.”

The suspect was arraigned in court for defilement on 0ctober 10, 2024, and remanded.

In another development, Hundeyin said that another suspect, Philip Agaku, had been arrested for allegedly having forceful sexual intercourse with a minor   between when she was eight years old and now she is 15. He added that Philip the suspect, stopped having sexual intercourse with her in April, 2024.

The suspect will be charged to court on October 14, 2024.

Hundeyin said: “On September 11, 2024, at about 5 pm, a case of defilement was transferred from Area ‘B’ Apapa to Gender Unit, Ikeja, Lagos and the police went into action and arrested the suspect.”
