The Nigeria Brewery Plc in partnership with Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund (ETF) yesterday announced the kick off of the 2026 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition with mouthwatering offers for winners.
The company secretary/legal director of NB Plc, Mr. Uaboi Agbekaku, while declaring the 12th edition of Maltina Teacher award open, said the competition was for teachers in public and private secondary schools.
Agbekaku commended the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Air Peace, Honda Nigeria West Africa and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) for supporting the competition.
In his address, the Sustainability and CSR Manager of NB Plc, Mr. Oluseye Olokun, said the competition was the brain child of Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund (ETF), which started with a take off grant of N100 million.
Olokun said since 2015 when the competition started till today, over 11,000 entries have been received from teachers nationwide while about 8,000 were valid entries.
According to him, the increase in entries is an indication of the acceptability of the competition by teachers in public and private schools.
He said the winner of the 2026 competition would go home with N10 million, a Honda car valued at N25.1 million, one year supply of Maltina and capacity development training abroad while the school gets an education facility worth N30 million.
The CRS manager said the prize for second placed teacher is N5 million, third position goes home with N3 million and state champions will get N1 million each.
He disclosed that the entry application begins June 3 to August 7, while the award ceremony is slated for October 30.
In his welcome speech, NB Plc Director of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Uzodimma Odenigbo, described the Maltina Teacher of the Year award as the biggest competition in Africa.
He commended TRCN for ensuring qualified teachers were vetted to participate in the competition, which is meant to reward and accord them recognition.
Odenigbo said NB Plc would promote a conducive learning environment for teachers and students. He urged the government to secure schools and make them safe for learning.
Representatives of NUT, ANCOPSS, TRCN, Honda and Air Peace commended NB Plc for the competition and pledged their continued support of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.
