In a move to enhance the quality of education in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde and the Swedish Government have announced a partnership.
The governor expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the education sector during a meeting with a Swedish delegation led by the Ambassador of Sweden to Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and ECOWAS, Ms Annika Hahn-England, in Ibadan on Friday.
Makinde highlighted the importance of education infrastructure and the recruitment of more teachers in improving the quality of education.
He stated that his administration has already recruited 6,000 active teachers and plans to recruit even more in the future.
Makinde, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Sulaimon Olanrewaju, emphasised that education should not be centralised, instead urging local and state governments to contribute more to the education system.
The governor also stressed the four major pillars of his administration’s roadmap for accelerated development: health, education, security, and the economy. He assured that his government would provide necessary support to any programme that can bring about improvements in the education system.
Ambassador Hahn-England expressed the Swedish Government’s interest in partnering with Governor Makinde to develop the education sector of Oyo State. She also expressed a willingness to learn from the state on ways to improve the economy.
Meanwhile, Governor Makinde has described his Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, as one of the strong pillars behind the successes being recorded by his government since 2019.
The governor stated this on Friday, while congratulating Ogunwuyi, the Otunba Mayeloye of Ijeru Kingdom, on attaining 50, via a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Print Media), Moses Alao.
According to the governor, Ogunwuyi has proven himself as a loyal and dedicated team member across his stints as Director-General of the Oyo State Investment Promotion Agency (OYSIPA) and now as Chief of Staff.
