Mahamat, AU chair visits Nigeria

Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat will, on Thursday, begin an official visit to Nigeria.

The visit, according to the spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tope Adeleye Elias-Fatile, will begin on Thursday, October 25 and will end on Friday, October 26.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja wishes to announce that the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency, Moussa Faki Mahamat, would arrive Abuja today, Wednesday 24th on an official visit to Nigeria from Thursday 25th to Friday 26th October, 2018.

“He would be received with members of his delegation by the Honourable  Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, on Thursday, after which there would be a Ministerial Roundtable on ‘Repositioning Nigeria in the African Union.’

“The Chairperson is expected to pay a courtesy call on Mr. President at the State House and would later participate at an interactive session with representatives of the Nigerian Business Community the same day.

“By evening, he would attend a cultural engagement at the National Council for Arts and Culture with the Actors Guild of Nigeria,” Elias-Fatile said.

The AU chairperson is also expected to visit the National Defence College (NDC), on Friday,  where she would deliver a lecture on the theme: ‘Good Governance and Regional Security: Strategic  Options for the African Union.’

Elias-Fatile added that the AU chairperson is also billed to visit the headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as well as the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mahamat is expected to depart Abuja on Saturday, October 27, 2018.
