The Presidency has denied report making rounds that the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has been sacked
The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on his twitter handle described the report as speculative and preemptive.
He posted the following tweets on his handle: “we are reading reports that the @officialEFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu has been sacked.
“No report has been made available to the Presidency by the Attorney General of the Federation over the matter. The report of his sack is therefore speculative and preemptive,” he said
President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to investigate top officials of his administration who have been accused of corruption.
Although the two paragraphed statement on December 18, 2016 did not mention any specific official, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the Acting Chairman of the anti-graft EFCC have both been accused of corrupt practices.
While the SGF was indicted for awarding N200m contract to his company to cut grass in the internally displaced persons camp in North-east with the Senate asking for his suspension from office, Magu on the other hand could not be confirmed as substantive chairman by the Senate also on corruption allegations
The Senate had based its decision on a “security report” by the State Security Service (SSS).
Meanwhile, the acting chairman of the anti graft agency was at his duty post yesterday where he distributed relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs) in Abuja.
Accompanied by his aides, Magu visited Kuchingoro camp near the City Gate and Area1 camp to lift their spirits as the year 2016 came to an end.
Magu who looked unperturbed by the rumour of his sack urged victims of insurgency not to be demoralized by their present predicament but to remain strong, adding that there will soon be an end to their travail.
“I am aware that most of you never expected that you would find yourselves in this predicament. There are things we as human beings cannot change. But whatever situation we find ourselves, we can make the most of it. That is the reason I am here today to tell you that I feel your pains and to celebrate this special season with you”, Magu said.
