Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, has inducted 1,056 newly admitted students into its academic community for the 2025/2026 academic session, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, innovation and global competitiveness.
The matriculation ceremony, the fifth since the university was established in 2022, was held at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Lecture Theatre and attracted parents, guardians and well-wishers from across the country.
Speaking at the event, the President of MAAUN, Prof. Mohammad Israr, described the ceremony as the formal admission of the students into a university community founded on excellence, integrity and service.
He congratulated the fresh students on securing admission and urged them to take advantage of the institution’s academic opportunities while maintaining high standards of discipline and character.
Prof. Israr noted that MAAUN has continued to expand its academic and research footprint through strategic investments in teaching, innovation and international collaborations.
According to him, the university was recently ranked as Nigeria’s second-best private university by the AD Scientific Index, a global academic ranking platform.
He disclosed that the institution has signed over 70 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with universities and organisations across 31 countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Russia, China, Brazil, India and Afghanistan.
The university president further revealed that MAAUN currently has more than 5,000 students, with female students accounting for about 80 per cent of the student population, reflecting its commitment to empowering women through quality education.
In his remarks, Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, warned the students against drug abuse and other social vices, stressing that the institution operates a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.
He advised the students to uphold good character and strictly adhere to the university’s rules and regulations throughout their academic journey.
Also speaking, Vice President Administration of MAAUN Maradi, Niger Republic, Dr. Shu’aibu Tanko, encouraged the students to be worthy ambassadors of the university and Nigeria by demonstrating excellence, discipline and leadership.
Parents who attended the ceremony commended the university’s management for its commitment to academic excellence and character development, while also praising the provision of world-class facilities that support teaching, learning and research.
The matriculation oath was administered by the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar.
