Barely five days after the Lukarawa terrorists group announced their presence at Kemenji, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing four people including a woman, the group on Thursday evening unleashed terror on the Luma community and burnt down all the security checkpoints in the area.

Also touched by the invaders were all the security vehicles at the checkpoints leading to the Kainji National Park.

The group, which arrived at the Kainji National Park area, where they have hoisted their flags, attacked the checkpoints at about 9:30pm, leaving all the security agents scampering for their lives.

Although there was no report of any casualty as at the time of filing this report, all the operational vehicles belonging to the security agencies were completely razed. It was gathered that the security agents took to their heels when they got information from the locals that terrorists were coming in their numbers.

“All the security people abandoned their operational vehicles and ran into the bush because the terrorists were over 100 in number,” one of the locals told our correspondent on phone.

Recall that Daily Sun exclusively reported the movement of the group into the National Park on Monday, after they were ferried across Olli River in Borgu Local Government Area on Sunday. It was gathered from a source in the local communities that the group  hoisted its flag at Kemenji, in the Borgu sector of Kainji Lake National Park. They were said to have numbered about 200 and arrived in about 68 motorcycles with each of the motorcycles carrying between two and three members of the group.

“We did not know where they came from, but they told us that they are Lakurawa sect and that they had come to help their members who are constantly being harassed,” a villager told our correspondent on phone.

There was no statement from either the government or the state police command as at the time of filing this report.
