Doctors of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital (LTH), Ogbomoso have expressed regrets the industrial action they embarked upon, saying it was occasioned by alleged bad working condition among other allegations against Oyo State government.

A press statement by Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of the hospital, signed by the president, Sebastian Oiwoh and two other members of the executive, said if the bad working condition continues, it would portend danger for the hospital, members of the community in Ogbomoso and Oyo State.

ARD said: “It is no news that members of the Association of Resident Doctors have been on indefinite withdrawal of services. It is also no news that the management, board and Oyo State government is aware of this industrial crisis.

“The reasons for the actions are not farfetched: poor working conditions, persistent payment of percentage salary, poor funding of residency training, dearth of man power, incomplete infrastructural development, and neglect of the hospital among others.

“It has been obvious to all that our members are being paid 28 per cent) salary since January 2016 with 12 months salary being owed. What is interesting is the repeated obviation to the solution of the aforementioned problems by the Oyo State government in the last 14 months.

“We feel that the acting board chairman cum commissioner for health is playing politics with the welfare of our members and the lives of the citizens of Oyo State. What need to be done can be done immediately without the litany of excuses aimed at scoring personal point.

“The same excuse was given last year, same in March for which we suspended our initial action and same on August 29, 2017 when our national president paid him a visit; but alas it is all excuses but no visible solution.”

Reacting to this, Commissioner of Health, Dr. Azeez Popoola Adedunta, said the state government  was working hard to restructure and transform the teaching hospital.
