The Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo,has said investment in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly called cooking gas will stimulate economic growth by catalysing investment, fostering innovation, and facilitating the emergence of new industries and value chains.
The minister stated this at the groundbreaking ceremony of Windek Energy Limited 20,000 metric tonnes LPG depot in Atabrikang Aquaha, Ibeno Local Government Area, within the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone here Akwa-Ibom State at the weekend.
Ekpo explained that the development of the LPG depot holds immense promise not only for the people of Akwa-Ibom State but for the entire nation because it will enhance access to clean and affordable cooking fuel, thereby promoting public health and environmental sustainability.
‘‘I extend my appreciation to Windek Energy Limited for their visionary commitment to this project, which marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards energy security and economic prosperity.
“The establishment of this LPG depot underscores the importance of strategic investments in the gas sector which is pivotal for driving industrialization, creating jobs, and improving the livelihoods of our people’’.
He noted that the gathering reaffirms the collective resolve to harness the immense potential of our nation’s natural resources, particularly in the gas sector, saying Nigeria is blessed with abundant gas reserves, and it is incumbent upon us to leverage these resources efficiently and sustainably for the benefit of current and future generations.
The gas minister commended the Government of Akwa-Ibom State and the Governor of the State, Pastor Umo Eno, for creating an enabling environment for investment and for their unwavering support for projects that promote socio-economic development.
According to him, the establishment of the LPG depot is a testament to the fruitful collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing shared goals of progress and prosperity.
‘‘As we embark on this journey, let us remain committed to the principles of transparency, accountability, and sustainability. Let us work together to ensure that this project is executed with the highest standards of quality and safety, and that its benefits are equitably distributed among all stakeholders.
I wish to reiterate my congratulations to Windek Energy Limited and all those involved in bringing this project to fruition. May this groundbreaking ceremony mark the beginning of a new era of growth, opportunity, and prosperity for the people of Akwa-Ibom State and indeed, for our beloved nation, Nigeria.’’
Eno in his speech thanked the minister of State Petroleum Resources Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo for facilitating the establishment of the gas plant in the state.
Eno, represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, also assured Ekpo and the management of Windek Energy Limited of the security of contractors and staff, as well as the support and collaboration of the host community in bringing the project to fruition.
