Supporters of the Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure on Friday, forced their way into the party’s headquarters which was sealed by the police on Thursday.

Armed policemen took over the Secretariat after seven members of the National Working Committee of the Party, announced the National Vice-Chairman (South), Lamidi Bashir Apapa, as the acting chairman of the party, replacing the suspended chairman, Julius Abure.

However, a faction supporting Abure, which consisted of about 28 state chairmen of the party, arrived Abuja and forced their way into the Secretariat.

They insisted that Abure remains the party chairman, stating that he could only be removed by the National Executive Council (NEC) and a court of competent jurisdiction.

But speaking at the party premises, Chief Kehinde Rotimi, spokesperson for the Forum of LP chairmen across the country, said Apapa and his team were aggrieved members who had been suspended by the party, adding that they took the law into their hands by invading the party instead of waiting for the court to determine a motion of notice.

He said: “Some hours ago we were amazed at the report that hoodlums and thugs invaded our party secretariat at Utako, that is why we came. They destroyed properties, carted away our documents, committed all sorts of atrocities that are not in tandem with the rule of law

“We were told that they went to court and took particular order but they did not wait for the court to determine whatever motion of notice is, they took laws into their hands to come and destroy our Secretariat.”
