Igbo youths are currently boiling over the recent attack of the campaign ground of the Labour Party(LP) in Aniri,Enugu State, alleging that the assault was targetted at frustrating the Presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi,the LP candidate.
In a separate statements on Thursday, the Igbo groups under the aegis of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL) and the Igbo National Council(INC) while warning those behind the attack to seize henceforth, have also called on the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Usman Alkali Baba to investigate and arrest all those behind it.
President General of COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem while describing the attack as an affront to democracy vowed that the youths will resist any of such further attack.
While his counterpart, Chilos Godsent,President of INC,worldwide called for caution, pointing out that if such attack is not properly handled it may degenerate to something unimaginable especially as the 2023 general election draws near.
“The Wanton Disruption of the Labour Party LP Campaign Activities in Enugu State is quite regrettable and unacceptable. We also condemn the act as it may degenerate to a more dangerous magnitude if not properly handled” Godsent advised.
President General of COSEYL on his own part said “We are very aware that the attack on the Labour Party is because of the soaring popularity of his presidential candidates Mr Peter Obi whose presidential ambition is now a movement and some people are not happy ,which is why some politicians sent some hoodlums to attack them in order to whittle down the popularity of the party’s presidential candidate.
“We therefore call on the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to immediately activate her intelligence to clamp down on those hoodlums and their sponsors who attacked the Labour Party gathering in Enugu.
“We warn all political actors to behave themselves during this electioneering periods. We will not tolerate any form of violence or attack because politics is not a do-or-die affair, everyone is entitled to exercise his political rights and franchise” Ibem stated.
