Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman registered an assist and scored the winning goal for Atalanta in the team’s 3-2 victory over Fiorentina at the Gewiss Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman returned to Atalanta’s starting eleven when the team welcomed Fiorentina to the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday. It was the Nigerian’s first game of the season after spending most of the summer unsure if he would stay at the club due to interest from PSG and Arsenal.
Atalanta had the home advantage, but Fiorentina drew first blood after 15 minutes, courtesy of a strike from Lucas Martinez Quarta. However it didn’t take long for Atalanta to equalise as Lookman supplied a brilliant cross to Mateo Retegui who calmly converted to make it 1-1.
Unfortunately for Atalanta, the joy did not last as Moise Kean scored for Fiorentina, making it 2-1 for the visitors. However, Atalanta turned on the heat after going behind.
The team got its rewards just before the break, as Charles De Ketelaere scored in in the 45th minute to make it 2-2.
Then, Lookman who hadn’t gotten any good look at goal got his big chance at the stroke of half time. He received a long pass from his half, ran to the edge of the box, blitzed past three Fiorentina defenders, and struck a shot into the bottom left corner to make it 3-2.
In the second half, Fiorentina saw more of the ball, but failed to create good goalscoring opportunities. Atalanta had more looks at at goal, but failed to find the net. Lookman had a good chance from inside the box late on, but he missed it.
After 90 minutes, it ended 3-2 in Atalanta’s favour. Lookman will be looking to continue his goalscoring form for Atalanta in the coming weeks.
