Provost of the Life Theological Seminary, Professor Cletus .C. Orgu, has expressed gratitude to God for seven decades of engaging in transformative theological education, leadership development and global impact for the advancement of the Christian faith.
He made the remarks at a press conference where he noted that the activities lined up for the 70th anniversary of the seminary. He said the institution would hold a convocation ceremony where the institution will be graduating students from various programmes, including bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees.
The Seminary is a theological institution of the Foursquare Gospel Church. Themed: “Seventy Years of Training Men and Women for Effective Ministry,” Orgu, said activities lined up for the programme are spiritually enriching and legacy-building which include the inaugural anniversary lecture by the Provost on October 22; a novelty match between seminary students and a guest team (October 30); thanksgiving service at the Seminary Chapel (November 5); Honorary Doctoral awards to outstanding figures in Christian leadership and launch of a Festschrift in honour of the outgoing Provost among others. He expressed gratitude to God and appreciation to the media, ministry partners, alumni and friends of the Seminary, describing the 70th anniversary as “a milestone of grace, growth and global relevance.”
He underscored the Seminary’s continued commitment to producing spiritually grounded, theologically sound and mission-driven leaders.
“This is not just our celebration of longevity, it’s a reflection on legacy, relevance and renewal. It is a celebration of every life transformed, every church strengthened and every nation impacted through the ministry of LIFE Theological Seminary.”
The provost added that LIFE has produced thousands of pastors, missionaries, educators and theologians, who now serve in various denominations and nations across the continent and beyond.
Founded in 1955 under the visionary leadership of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Orgu said the LIFE Theological Seminary began as a response to the need for trained ministers to serve the rapidly growing Christian movement in Africa.
“Today, it stands as one of Africa’s foremost institutions of ministerial formation, having trained thousands of pastors, missionaries, theologians, church planters and educators, who now serve faithfully across Nigeria, Africa and the global Christian community. “Our alumni are influencing communities, shaping nations and engaging culture with the mind of Christ,” Professor Orgu stated. “This anniversary is not merely a celebration of longevity, but a testimony to enduring impact. “We recognise that our journey has been possible through the support of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, global partners, governing council, faculty, staff, alumni and others.
“As we celebrate 70 years, we are not resting on our laurels. The seminary is envisioning the next decade as a decade of renewal and expansion.
“As we count our blessings and chart the future, we remain anchored in our motto: Balancing spirituality with academic excellence.”
