Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Borno State chapter, John Bakeni, has called on Christians and Nigerians to shun injustice, anger, hatred, corruption, and other vices hindering national progress.
Bakeni made the call on Monday while delivering a sermon at the CAN Easter Unity Service in Maiduguri, urging citizens to embrace righteousness and unity in line with the message of Easter.
Drawing from the biblical account in Matthew 28:2, the cleric likened the resurrection of Jesus Christ to the need for Nigerians to “roll away” negative tendencies from their lives, just as the angel rolled away the stone from Christ’s tomb.
“As recorded in the Bible, the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone and sat on it. Let us therefore roll away hatred, disunity, injustice and all ungodly acts that divide us as a people,” he told hundreds of worshippers at the service.

Bakeni, who also serves as Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri, described Easter as a celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and a symbol of victory over death.
He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite prevailing challenges, stressing the need to trust in God for victory over despair, new beginnings over past difficulties, and light over darkness.
The CAN chairman further urged citizens to embrace peace, unity, and moral uprightness as essential ingredients for national development.
