Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Chief Medical Director (CMD), Adetokunbo Fabamwo, has appealed to the public to respect the privacy of victims of the train-bus accident.
The CMD in statement, yesterday, said the attention of LASUTH management and staff has been drawn to an Instagram post accusing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of giving instructions preventing people from coming into the wards to visit victims of the unfortunate train-bus accident.
He said the public should note that Governor Sanwo-Olu has never been directly involved in the day to day running of LASUTH, saying the hospital has a management team, led by a renowned professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, and an astute administrator per excellence.
“The instruction to limit the publicity of these victims and other patients on admission was authorised by the CMD and not the governor as he has never been involved in such decisions.
“The gentleman in the said video, approached us with his request as stated and was advised to convey this decision of management to his principal.
“Furthermore, we wish to put it on record that the governorship candidate of Labour Party visited these same patients in LASUTH two days ago and nobody stopped him. He was received by top management of the health sector in the state, including the Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Akin Abayomi.
“There is a great need to respect the privacy of these patients and allow them the needed space and time to recover.
“The public are hereby advised to ignore the Instagram post in question and be rest assured of the genuine concern of Lagos State governor about the health and welfare of everyone. They should also trust the management of LASUTH to take decisions and make pronouncements that are clearly devoid of political theatrics and in the best interest of the patients.”
