Leadership Tussle Resolved: Nasarawa Assembly Re-elects Balarabe Abdullahi as Speaker of the 7th Assembly

In a decisive move to put an end to the recent leadership crisis, the members of the 7th Nasarawa State House of Assembly have re-elected Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi (APC- Umaisha/ Ugya) as the Speaker of the 7th Assembly. The resolution was reached during the inauguration of the members of the Assembly on Friday in Lafia, the state capital.
In adherence to Governor Abdullahi Sule’s proclamation and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hon Ibrahim Musa, the Acting Clerk of the House, officially announced the election results.
The Speaker’s position was nominated by Hon Mohammed Adamu Oyanki (PDP- Doma North) and seconded by Hon Larry Ven Bawa (APC- Akwanga North). Meanwhile, Hon Abel Yakubu Bala (PDP- Nassarawa Eggon West) was elected as the Deputy Speaker, nominated by Hon Ibrahim Peter Akwe (PDP- Obi 1) and seconded by Hon Suleiman Yakubu Azara (APC- Awe South).
Upon his re-election, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi expressed his gratitude to the members of the Assembly for their trust and confidence in his leadership. In his acceptance speech, he pledged to provide inclusive leadership for the betterment of peace and development in Nasarawa State.
“I want to congratulate Honorable members on your inauguration and for electing me to serve as the Speaker of the seventh assembly. I have presided over the affairs of this Assembly in the last eight years with all sense of fairness and the fear of God,” stated Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi.
“I want to assure you that I will continue in that spirit. I will also continue to operate an open-door policy, as I have done in the last eight years,” he added, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accessibility.
Furthermore, the Speaker assured the staff of the Assembly of his dedication to improving their welfare and working conditions. He also pledged unwavering support and collaboration with Governor Abdullahi Sule for the overall development of the state.
“We must join hands with other arms of government to achieve speedy development across the state,” Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi stated, underlining the importance of synergy among various government bodies.
He also expressed gratitude to Governor Sule for renovating the House, ensuring a conducive environment for effective service delivery.
Sun reports that the inauguration witnessed the full attendance of all the 24 members, signifying a united front as the 7th Nasarawa State House of Assembly begins its official duties under the re-elected leadership of Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi.
