The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has reiterated the need to create an enabling environment where individuals can be empowered  to address and manage stress in healthy and productive ways.

President of the chamber, Dr Michael Olawale-Cole made the remark at the weekend at the chamber’s 135th anniversary  health talk/walk , which was themed: Health  Talk/ Walk Today, Understanding Stress and its  impact on health.”

He noted that the event was one of the activities outlined to celebrate a remarkable milestone, which is the 135th anniversary of the chamber, noting that today’s fast paced world where the demand of business and modern life can be overwhelming, it was imperative to pause and recognize the profound but negative effects that stress can have on our well being.

He advised that it was  therefore  crucial that everyone takes proactive steps to safeguard one’s health and that of our colleagues.

Noting that stress can manifest in different ways, physically, mentally and emotionally, the LCCI boss emphasised that it is essential to be  equipped with a deep understanding of the implications so that one can effectively mitigate its adverse effects.

“Engaging in regular exercises offers a multitude of health benefits that contribute to our overall well being and vitality. It is important to note that the specific benefits can vary based on the type, intensity and duration of exercise, as well as individual factors  such as age, health status and genetics .

“Quite importantly, it is now very vital that you know your numbers especially with the low cost equipment in abundance: Know your heart  rate;  biometric index, blood pressure; sugar level and body mass.

These are metrics that we should and must be familiar with. We must track them often as possible. This theme also underscores our commitment to our holistic well being, recognising that a healthy workforce is one of the conner stones of a thriving economy.

Together let’s ensure our health is our  wealth.

“If you take care of your health, you are taking care of your business.”

The high points of the event were an engaging talks by renowned health experts, fitness demonstrations  and community walk.
