A legal firm, Bayo-Philip & Co has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the management of Federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos to withdraw the suspension letter given to the 15-year-old pupil of the college, Mohammed Ayomide Elusogbon.
The ultimatum letter signed by Bayo Philip and dated December 21st, 2023, also demanded the FGC management to tender an apology for aiding and abetting the criminal conduct of embezzlement of funds by the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) executives, which is under investigation.
The School Based Management Committee (SBMC) on December 5th, 2023 suspended an SS 3 pupil, Mohammed Ayomide Elusogbon because his mum, Mrs. Falilat Elusogbon dragged the PTA to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged embezzlement of funds.
Two other SS 2 pupils were also sent on indefinite suspension for their parents being part of the petition to EFCC. The pupils were denied access to the school portal.
It warned: “Please note that if this letter is not withdrawn and an apology tendered, we have our client’s instructions to take legal steps necessary to ensure that this crime is not covered and the consequence of our action will be deemed self inflicted.
The law firm said it finds it difficult to comprehend how the FGC Ijanikin would suspend a student, who has committed no crime, stressing, “he is in final year and paid the requisite fees because the school is desperately trying to cover up allegation of embezzlement of funds against the executives of the PTA.
“Please be informed that the EFCC is a body set up by statute to investigate allegations of crime and the inducement of anybody to stop the investigation of an allegation of crime is itself a criminal offence.
‘It is important to draw your attention to the fact that the content of this letter also is nothing but an interference with the investigation of crime by EFCC, which act is a criminal offence,” the law firm noted.
The law chambers said Mrs. Elusogbon informed it that EFCC has began investigation into the alleged embezzlement of funds and invited the PTA executives to explain the infraction in the account.
According to the firm, while investigation is still ongoing, the college management decided to suspend Mohammed Ayomide Elusogbon from school.
It added: “Our client also informed us that she had been invited to the school on several occasions and threatened by the principal that except the petition at EFCC is withdrawn, her son would be dealt with.”
The Principal of FGC Ijanikin, Dr. Kehinde Famuyibo and PTA chairman, Mr. Tokede Williams and denied being behind the suspension of Mohammed Ayomide Elusogbon.
