LATSMA rescues 3 accident victims

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), have rescued three victims in two separate road accidents that occurred in Lagos on Tuesday.

The incidents, which happened at Victoria Island and Volks, inward Abule-Ado, were attributed to reckless  speeding and the slippery conditions of roads following a  heavy rainfall.

In the first crash, a lone Ford vehicle with registration number :APP 413 YH ,lost control and rammed into a roadside structure along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, by Kofo Abayomi Junction, inward Kilimanjaro/Law School, Victoria Island.

Wirhnesses said the impact left the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was unconscious after hitting his chest against the steering wheel. LASTMA officials immediately contacted LASAMBUS personnel, who resuscitated the victim before rushing him to a nearby hospital.

In a related incident, a Coaster bus with registration number:NCA 118 XB, collided with a Mini bus with number  plate : FKJ 118 XB at Volks, inward Abule-Ado. Reports indicated that the coaster bus, which was allegedly speeding under  the rain, lost control and rammed into the smaller bus.

LASTMA confirmed that two male passengers sustained severe injuries and were taken to GMC Hospital, Ilaje, Abule Ado, for urgent treatment, while police officers from Ojo Division provided security during the rescue operation.

Speaking on the accidents, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, cautioned motorists against reckless driving, especially during the rainy season.

“We admonish all drivers to exercise utmost circumspection and restraint, particularly by moderating their speed when the roads are wet and visibility is poor,” Bakare-Oki said, adding,” we wish the injured victims speedy recovery as they receive medical care.”
