Call it a gathering of eagles, a political rally, or Akpugo 2026 royal passage, and you would be right. This describes the burial ceremony of Late Chief Monica Nnenna Nnaji, née Nneji, aka Nneokwukwe, of Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State.

The 77-year-old matriarch passed away on January 6, 2026, after a brief illness. She was a woman of virtue who, despite losing her husband early, stood strong and nurtured her four children.

Her homecoming began on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with a service of songs celebrating her extraordinary legacy. The wake, which started at 5 pm, featured songs of praise, prayers, and tributes reflecting her resilience.

The burial mass was held at 10 am on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Akpugo. Dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, His Excellency Benjamin Kalu, Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi and other prominent figures, attended.

Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, her son, described her as their anchor, shelter, and source of strength. “Your life was one of quiet sacrifice, deep faith, and relentless love,” he said. The officiating priests were led by the Arch Bishop of Enugu Diocese, His Lordship, Callistus Valentine Chukwuma Onanga.
