The Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday matriculated 6,377 new students admitted for the 2021/2022 academic session.
Vice chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who disclosed this at the matriculation ceremony, said over 25,000 applied to the university.
She said the approved carrying capacity by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for LASU is 8,000 and that 7,800 students accepted the admission offer.
“Those who applied to LASU through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were 25,000 but our quota from NUC is 8,000. Out of 7,800 students that accepted our admission offer, 6, 377 matriculated while this morning before the ceremony, I cleared 109 for admission.”
The VC congratulated the new students and advised them to face their studies and make their parents proud.
She assured the students that their welfare and security on campus would be top priority of the university management.
The LASU VC urged the new students to strive for academic excellence and graduate with good Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
Prof. Olatunji-Bello reminded the students of her administration’s policy of refunding 50 percent school fee to any students that make 4.50 CGPA in any academic session.
Earlier, the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko, reminded the students that the oath they took marked a new dawn for them and tasked them to be of good conduct and obedient to university authorities.
His words: “I therefore charge you to make the most of this rare opportunity and ensure class attendance above 70 percent while focusing on the objectives of seeking a university degree.”
Olumoko advised the students to abide by rules and regulations of the university.
He reminded the students that the university has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct and that it would not hesitate to apply sanctions whenever there is an infraction.
The dean students’ affairs congratulated parents and guardian for the success of their wards’ admission and advised them that character molding should not be left to the management and staff of the university alone.
