Lassa Fever outbreak hits FCT, emergency response activated

An outbreak of Lassa Fever has hit the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with two confirmed cases in a 14-month-old and 13-year-old, respectively, with no mortality recorded so far.

Mandate Secretary, FCT Health and Environment Services Secretariat Dr Adedolapo Fasawe told the media at a joint press conference with officials of World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), in Abuja, on Monday, that four suspected cases were recorded, and so far, two confirmed cases have been recorded.

She said that Lassa Emergency Operation Centres/protocols have been activated across FCT as part of response measures, adding that no cause for alarm but precautionary measures should be taken by Nigerians and health workers.
