LaLiga president Javier Tebas guaranteed on Monday that the semi-automatic offside rule will be implemented next season in First and Second Division matches and expressed confidence that the new system will be available from the first matchday.

Tebas reaffirmed LaLiga’s commitment in statements to the media after speaking at a conference organized by LaLiga on geopolitics and sport at the headquarters of the Higher Center for National Defence Studies (Ceseden) in Madrid.

“It’s already underway. It now depends on more technological issues, but it will be in place next season and I hope from the first matchday,” the president of the football clubs’ association pointed out.

The new system uses cameras and sensors to help referees identify when a player is in an offside position.
