• Police release Osifala after marathon interrogation

Following alleged  sexual harassment of a Queen’s College Lagos, Junior Secondary School, (JSS2) student by a teacher,  Mr Olaseni Osifala, the state’s Ministry of Youth and Social Development has waded into the matter. The ministry  said  jurisdiction will not stop its investigation into the saga.

Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, who made this disclosure at a press conference yesterday, as long as the school is located in the state and the alleged act was perpetrated in the state, the school can’t stop the investigation.

“Queen’s College is a federal school but, it is located in the state. The state has encountered uncooperative attitude of the school authority and we are calling for the temporary removal of those concerned in the issue pending the outcome of the investigation,”

She  pleaded with the Federal Government to order authorities of the school to cooperate on the investigation. “We  implore the Federal Ministry of Education to direct officials of the school to cooperate with us in the best interest of the children.”

Akinbule-Yussuf added that the state will not stand by and watch  but will always act in accordance with the Child Right Act.

Meanwhile, after three days with detectives at the Lagos State Police Command,  Osifala, regained his freedom on Thursday evening.

Mr. Osifala broke the news of his release from detention to Daily Sun around 6.45pm yesterday. He was released at about 6:05pm.

The Biology teacher said he was released to his elder brother and asked by the detectives to report again next Tuesday.

The Police Command confirmed that  Osifala, had been in their custody since Tuesday undergoing interrogation.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Dolapo Badoms confirmed to Daily Sun that Osifala was grilled by detectives.

On why the police are holding Mr. Osifala since Tuesday, Mrs. Badmos, defended the command action and stated that his continued detention is because investigations are on going.

She also gave reason why the police command are investigating the case without the complainant who raised the alarm against the teacher of assaulting her JSS2 daughter, Mrs. Badmos said the police is empowered to investigate issues that are of public concern and was silent on whether the teacher would be charged to court.
