Lagos seals public toilet for pumping raw sewage into public drain

A public toilet located at Savage Street, Ebute Metta area of Lagos has been sealed by the state government for pumping raw sewage into a public drain.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this in an X post on Thursday.

He said the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office sealed the facility on Wednesday.

The post reads, “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026, sealed off a public toilet located at Savage Street, Ebute Metta, for the deliberate pumping of raw sewage into the public drain resulting into offensive odour and sewage flow within the community, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution, and posing significant risks to human health.”

The state government urged residents to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to support public health and promote environmental sustainability.

“Any act of environmental nuisance or pollution will attract appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution,” the post further reads.
