In a groundbreaking partnership, MTN Group and the Lagos State government yesterday unveiled the MyLagosApp, a revolutionary mobile application designed to enhance productivity, connectivity, and transform the lives of Lagos residents.

At the app’s official launch in Lagos, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola said the app is a one-stop center providing access to information, services, entertainment, hospitality, and e-governance, adding that the innovative solution aims to make daily life easier for Lagos residents and visitors.

He said that MTN was very proud to be at the forefront of productivity in Nigeria, with a national broadband penetration of 90.1 per cent.

According to him, MTN is continuously optimising infrastructure for the country and for Lagos in particular, stressing that the state accounts for about a quarter of the traffic that MTN carried in Nigeria.

The MyLagosApp is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economy and governance. With its user-friendly interface and robust features, the app is poised to become an essential tool for Lagosians.

He said MTN’s landmark project is the development of West Africa’s largest data centre on the Lagos mainland, which is set to revolutionize the region’s tech landscape.

“It’s going to be the most advanced data centre across the entire West Africa, solidifying Lagos’ position as a thriving tech and innovation hub,” he said

Beyond infrastructure, he said MTN is tackling Nigeria’s shortage of highly skilled technical talent.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his deputy,  Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized the need for technology-driven governance to tackle Lagos’ rapid growth.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos’ governance challenges are immense, stating: “What we manage in Lagos is bigger than most countries in Africa.”

He cited key urban issues, including waste management, with Lagos generating 13,000 metric tonnes of waste daily, and education, with a primary school population equivalent to 84% of a population.

The MyLagosApp launch is part of the state’s efforts to leverage technology for innovative solutions.

This collaboration between MTN and the Lagos State government demonstrates their commitment to leveraging technology to drive growth, improve lives, and foster a more connected community.
