The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has warned its members against the use of hate speech in their reaction to issues.
Speaking in reaction to the recent comments of the former state chairman of the party, Pastor (Mrs.) Dayo Ekon who described some members as cultists, the state chairman of the caretaker committee, Hon. Olumide Adesoyin described such as condemnable and uncharitable.
This was even as the party demanded an apology from the immediate past chairman of the party over the outburst.
He wondered why the former chairman could descend so low to attempt to bring a political party that has contributed so much to their influence, growth and development into disrepute.
Adesoyin wondered why he and others were being described as cultists and moles after putting in much to take the party to an unprecedented level at the last elections.
“Let me say that he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones, especially as the romance between Pastor Dayo Ekong, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the last election, Gbadabo Rhodes Vivour and the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Chief Olabode George is public knowledge, to the level of providing election funds to members of PDP in the state and to the detriment of Labour Party members.
“It is now in the media space as Mr Philip Aivoji who was recently ousted as the state PDP chairman spilt the beans, by not only opening up on the issue but also indicted a leader and former minister of the party, accusing him of sharing Labour Party money to PDP members.
“Aivoji alleged that he was directed to share Labour Party money in Dollars ranging from five thousand dollars to one thousand dollars to PDP officials for election purposes while Labour Party Members got nothing for their hard work.
“Instead of addressing the issues, part of which made the LP lose the last gubernatorial election and which was largely the fault of Ekong and others, apologizing and accepting responsibility for same, they are shamelessly accusing innocent members of what they know nothing about”. Adesoyin declared.
