The Lagos State leadership of the Labour Party has disowned a press statement issued by one Adeola Onikoyi, describing it as fraudulent, misleading, and an attempt to destabilise the party in the state.

In a statement signed by the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Odunaike, the party said Onikoyi falsely presented himself as the State Publicity Secretary and claimed to communicate decisions from a purported “South West Caucus” meeting.

Odunaike maintained that the Labour Party in Lagos has only one constitutionally recognized leadership — the State Caretaker Committee inaugurated by the National Working Committee (NWC). He stressed that any parallel group or individual claiming executive authority in Lagos is acting illegally.

“The only body mandated to oversee the affairs of the Labour Party in Lagos State is the State Caretaker Committee under my leadership. Any other individual or faction parading themselves as executives are impostors,” Odunaike stated.

The committee further dismissed the meeting referenced by Onikoyi as an “illegal assembly,” insisting that individuals mentioned in the circulated statement, including Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi and Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, have no constitutional authority to convene meetings or take decisions on behalf of the Labour Party in the South West or Lagos State.

It said all purported resolutions — including the alleged ratification of Abayomi Arabambi as Vice Chairman and plans for congresses — were “null, void, and of no effect.” The committee noted that some of those involved were already facing disciplinary action for alleged anti-party activities.

Odunaike also described Onikoyi as an impostor with no role in the Lagos party structure, adding that his actions amounted to criminal impersonation that would be addressed legally.

The committee called on party members, the public, the media, INEC, and other stakeholders to disregard any communications from the faction.

Reaffirming its mandate, the Lagos Labour Party leadership said it remains committed to uniting members, strengthening party structures, and preparing for future elections.

“All official communications regarding the Labour Party in Lagos State will only emanate from the office of the State Caretaker Committee Chairman,” the statement concluded.
