Lagos State House of Assembly

The Lagos State House of Assembly has promised to ensure justice for the victims of the Owode-Onirin spare parts traders’ killings, following a massive protest by traders and the Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) at the Assembly gate yesterday.

Kehinde Joseph, Alomosho 2, gave the assurance on behalf of the Assembly. Led by CHSR president, Alex Omotehinse, the group petitioned the Lagos Assembly, urging it to take immediate action on the massacre of six traders at the Owode-Onirin Motor Spare Parts Market on August 27, 2025.

The incident occurred when an alleged notorious land grabber, Abiodun Hakeem Ariori, was accused of colluding with four policemen from the Nasarawa State Police Command to attack the market.

The CHSR accused the police of complicity in the killings, citing their failure to investigate the matter properly as well as their decision to transfer the case to Abuja.

The group also alleged that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, led by the state attorney general, Lawal Pedro, was attempting to cover up the incident and shield the perpetrators from accountability.

The CHSR demanded that the Lagos State House of Assembly constitutes an independent investigative panel to probe the killings and identify those responsible

“Summon the Attorney General to explain the handling of the case by his office.

“Provide compensation and relief to the families of the deceased and survivors.

“Petition the Inspector-General of Police to re-arrest the released officers and the land grabber for prosecution in Lagos State.

“Legislate laws against land grabbing and police complicity to prevent similar incidents in the future”

Responding to the group’s demands, Joseph, representing Alimosho 2, who spoke for the Assembly, promised that urgent action would be taken to ensure that justice was served.

Joseph commended the protesters for their peaceful march, assuring them that the Assembly must endure that the victims’ families get justice.
