Labour urges Kano govt. to clear unremitted N75b pension contribution.

Kano State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress has urged the state government to prevail on its institutions and entities to clear their backlog of unremitted pension contributions amounting to N75 billion as at May 2023.

The Chairman of the Congress, Kabiru Inuwa, who presented the demand during the Workers Day Celebration at Sani Abacha Stadium Wednesday stressed that the unremitted sum was a serious threat to the financial security of retirees in the state.

He recalled that the situation had resulted in non – payment of full pensions for years, urging the state government to ensure that all defaulting government institutions clear their backlogs to enable for the settlement of retirement and death benefits.

He also urged the government to revive the payment of the state’s monthly cash award, saying that workers in the state had relied on the award to improve their standards of living.

He also tasked the state government on implementation of the policy of Local Government autonomy while urging it to re- introduce an institution based- disbursement of vehicle loans in the state.

The Chairman, however, lauded the government for its timely payment of monthly salaries, full payment of pensions, reinstatement of workers employed by the previous administration, payment of retirement and death benefits amounting to N6 billion, promotion of workers and sponsorship of workers to foreign universities for further studies.
