The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party on Friday, November 28, 2025, held its meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, where it adopted key resolutions on the party’s leadership and internal administrative processes.

This came after weeks of silence and inactivity at the ever-busy national Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The meeting, attended by members of the National Working Committee (NWC), national officers, state chairmen and secretaries, stakeholders, co-opted NEC members, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reviewed issues arising from the party’s 2024 National Convention in Nnewi, Anambra State.

NEC referenced recent Supreme Court pronouncements affirming that the leadership and internal disputes of political parties are non-justiciable and should be resolved through mechanisms provided in party constitutions.

Following its review, NEC reaffirmed those elected as national officers at the March 27, 2024, National Convention in Anambra State.

They include the National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure; Deputy National Chairmen, Clement Ojukwu, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, and Esther Gulmu.

National Vice Chairmen Ibrahim Idoko (North Central), Ceekay Igarra (South East), and Anthony C. Ezeagwu (South South); and National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

Others reaffirmed are Deputy National Secretaries Rotimi Kehinde Adekunle and Chief Innocent Okeke; National Treasurer, Mrs Ngozi Doga; National Financial Secretary, Pastor Mrs Dayo Ekong; National Publicity Secretary, Mr Obiora Ifoh; National Organising Secretary, Comrade Yahuza Ahmed; National Legal Adviser, Barr. Kehinde Edun, National Women Leader, Mrs Dudu Manuga, and National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu.

NEC also filled three vacant positions in the NWC. Oluwafemi Abayomi Arabambi was named National Vice Chairman (South West), Prince Favour Reuben was appointed Assistant National Organising Secretary, and Barr. Enu Kikawa became Assistant National Woman Leader (South South).

The council further mandated the National Chairman and National Secretary to convene a Special Convention if necessary and ratified the decision to hold ward, local government, and state congresses nationwide.

The resolutions were signed by the National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, and National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

Meanwhile a chieftain of the party, who is loyal to Senator Nenadi Usman-led bloc, Elder Yusuf Danbaki, has dismissed claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) endorsed any congress or convention planned by the Abure leadership, describing the entire process as “illegal, unconstitutional and unacceptable.”

Speaking in reaction to reports that a fresh round of congresses or a repeat national convention may be underway, Danbaki insisted that those pushing the exercise lack the legitimacy to convene any statutory party meeting.
