Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed on the reason behind his exit from the club.
Ancelotti stated that Real Madrid’s loss to Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals sealed his fate at the club.
The defeat, according to the former Chelsea manager, influenced his decision to quit Santiago Bernabéu.
Ancelotti announced his departure from the club at the end of a disappointing season.
Los Blancos lost out in the Champions League, La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España.
Los Blancos fell four times at the hands of Barcelona, twice in the league and twice in cup finals.
He is now the national team coach of Brazil, while Real Madrid have appointed Xabi Alonso as the new boss.
Ancelotti told MARCA that he had a serious discussion with the top management body of the club after the Champions League exit.
“Results were not what we expected, and the team’s play wasn’t great either. It was time to do something.
“After the tie against Arsenal, we talked about it and decided. It was something we could see coming.
“The team wasn’t in good shape and we realised it was best for Real Madrid to look for change and for me to look at Brazil,” said Ancelotti.
