As 2027 general elections approach, Kwara South Stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for second term.
They met in Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area for Leaders’ Roundtable hosted by the Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Otunba Biodun Ajiboye.
The event with the theme: “Unity for progress: Charting a sustainable future for Kwara South” was attended by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, Kwara South APC Chairman, Olayemi Olabanji, former Kwara APC Chairman, Bashir Bolarinwa, Hon Owolabi Razak (Assembly member), Hon Tajudeen Abioye, Elder Oyin Zubair among others.
The Convener, Biodun Ajiboye said the meeting was to avail stakeholders opportunity to appreciate President Bola Tinubu, appraise the insecurity ravaging Kwara South and form strategic alliance ahead of 2027 general elections.
Ajiboye noted that the zone has strategic advantage in politics and governance, thereby implore indigenes to position themselves for higher opportunities.
A legal luminary, Abiodun Dada, while setting agenda, said agitation for zoning of governorship seats has no place in Nigeria’s constitution, he therefore encouraged Kwara Southerners to feel free to contest 2027 general elections.
“No zoning in the constitution of APC. Kwara South sons and daughters are free to contest for the governorship seat come 2027 and we will use our network and resources to support them.”
Senator Oyelola Ashiru vowed to support any governorship Aspirant from Kwara South come 2027.
“As we look ahead to 2027, the critical question before us is how Kwara South positions itself politically after the current administration. Do we sit back and watch, or do we rise and take our rightful place?
“It is the constitutional right of every son and daughter of Kwara South to aspire for the governorship seat, and now is the time to boldly pursue it. We must lobby, strategize, and stand united for the future of our zone.
“Kwara South deserves to occupy the highest office in the state, and this is the best moment for us to achieve it. I, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, declare my readiness to support any qualified aspirant from Kwara South who is willing to step forward.”
Senator Ashiru, however, praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his outstanding performance in the last six years.
Other speakers including Dr. Bashir Bolarinwa, Olayemi Olabanji and Owolabi Razak re-echoed the need for Kwara South indigenes to contest for governorship ahead 2027 general elections.
Participants expressed deep concern over the lingering security challenges in parts of Kwara South. They however appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for mobilizing state, community, and national security agencies to tackle the security challenges.
In the communique adopted at the Roundtable, participants emphasized that the people of Kwara South are committed to supporting a pan-Kwara Governor in 2027—one who embodies fairness, inclusiveness, competence, and a unifying spirit. “It is equally, an inalienable right of the respected people of Kwara South to contest for the Governorship of Kwara State comes 2027, and they are hereby urged to contest.”
A15-member Kwara South Leaders’ Think-Tank Committee was inaugurated to serve as a coordinating body to follow up on the resolutions of the Roundtable, articulate developmental priorities, and engage with relevant stakeholders at state and national levels
