The  Kwara State Police Command has recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 42 rounds of live ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Ilorin, leading to the discovery of a suspected gun-running network. The weapons were recovered from a bag inside a commercial vehicle intercepted along the Alapa–Okolowo axis.

Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the suspect initially denied ownership of the bag.

Police said investigation led to a breakthrough after the suspect allegedly admitted to conveying the firearms and ammunition. He reportedly told investigators that the weapons were given to him by a suspected member of a gun-running network for onward delivery to another individual outside Kwara State.

The command said efforts had been intensified to arrest the other suspects and establish the full extent of the alleged network. Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led and proactive operations to identify and disrupt threats to public safety.

He urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police, stressing that such support remained crucial to keeping the state safe.
