The remains of Nigeria’s Ambassador to France Ambassador Kayode Laro arrived Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday morning for immediate burial.

The body of the diplomat was flown in with an aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force, draped in the national colours as a mark of honour for his service to Nigeria.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq received the remains of the diplomat at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport Ilorin, supported by other dignitaries and family members of the deceased.

The Governor also attended the burial which took place at his family compound in Ilorin. The burial rites were led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Bashir Soliu.

Other dignitaries in attendance include Nigeria’s Ambassador to Paris (France) superintending Economic and Consular Affairs, Muazam Nayaya; Deputy Head of Mission (France) Ambassador Tunde Mukaila Mustapha; Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu and other principal officers; and AbdulRazaq’s family led by the Governor’s elder brother and Mutawalle Ilorin, Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq.

The Governor had earlier in his condolence message described his death as shocking and devastating, and prayed to Allah to forgive him and grant him al-jannah Firdaus.

Ambassador Tunde, who spoke to newsmen shortly after the burial rites, said the late Laro was a complete gentleman and a diplomat par excellence.

He prayed to Allah to grant the departed soul Aljannat Firdaus and console the family he left behind.
Meanwhile the Governor has paid a condolence visit to the family of ex-military administrator (MILAD) of the state, retired Group Captain Salaudeen Adebola Latinwo who died last Saturday.

Born in Offa, Kwara State, the late Latinwo was the military administrator for Kwara between January 1984 and August 1985.

The Governor was received in Offa by the Latinwos and some APC chieftains, including former Commissioner for Energy Femi Whyte Agbaje.

In a brief speech to the family, AbdulRazaq said Captain Latinwo paid his dues for the country and the state as a military officer and administrator, adding that his footprints will continue to be fresh in memory.

“On behalf of the state government, we commiserate with you over the death of the late administrator. He served the nation as an officer, and he also served the state as a Governor. His legacies are there forever,” he said.

“What we can say is that may Allah grant him Al-jannah Firdaus. Those of us that he left behind, especially the immediate and extended family, may Allah give us the fortitude to bear the loss.”

The Governor thereafter signed the condolence register at the family house.

Alhaji Lateef Latinwo, a younger brother of the deceased who spoke on behalf of the family, thanked AbdulRazaq for the visit and the support they so far enjoyed from the administration.

The visit to the Latinwos occurred a few hours after the Governor received the remains of Nigeria’s Ambassador to France Kayode Laro at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport Ilorin, followed by the burials at the house of the late envoy in the capital city.
