…Urges national repentance
By Vera Wisdom-Bassey
The General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, has offered prayers for the restoration of Nigeria’s economy and overall national well-being, declaring divine blessings upon the country and Lagos State in particular.
Pastor Kumuyi made the declaration during the church’s Power Night programme, where he ministered on the topic “Divine Pathway to Latter Days Blessings.”
He prayed that God would pour “surplus blessings” on the country, to enable Nigerians “eat in plenty” and experience sufficiency across the nation.
Quoting Isaiah 55:8–9, Kumuyi reminded worshippers that God’s thoughts and ways are higher than those of man, stressing the need for Nigerians to discover the divine pathway to blessings, especially as “the day of the Lord is near.”
He spoke further: “In the progress of our country, we will have progress, and in the peace of our country, we will have peace. As our country progresses, there shall be progress in every community.”
The cleric urged those who are spiritually weak or weary to arise and seek the Lord, noting that the present moment calls for renewed commitment and prayer.

He emphasised that genuine repentance is key to unlocking God’s blessings upon the nation. According to him, only heartfelt repentance both personal and collective can bring lasting restoration to Nigeria and Lagos State.
He further called on Nigerians to take the Word of God seriously, assuring that obedience would usher in “great and surpassing blessings” for individuals, communities, and the nation at large.
Addressing families, Pastor Kumuyi spoke strongly about parental responsibility, lamenting the decline of home training, family devotion, educational training, and moral instruction. He warned that neglect in these areas has contributed to societal challenges, as many young people are going astray.
“Parents must come before the Lord with broken hearts,” he said, adding, “They must acknowledge their faults and negligence and seek God in sincere parental repentance, so that families and the nation can be restored.”
The General Overseer also called on Nigeria’s political leadership to repent, stating that national suffering is often linked to leadership failure. He stressed that repentance by those in authority is essential for economic recovery and national restoration.
“If leadership has not led the people in the right direction, repentance is necessary,” he said, adding that meaningful change must begin with individuals.
Citing the biblical example of King David, Pastor Kumuyi explained how David confessed his sins before God and accepted responsibility for his actions. He referenced Joel 2:12–13, urging leaders, parents, and citizens alike to return to God with all their hearts.
Similarly, he urged ministers of the gospel to engage in self-examination and repentance, saying that spiritual leaders must be rightly aligned with God for the nation to experience divine intervention and for impending evils to be averted.
