The Kingmakers who will determine the next Emir of Kano have arrived at the State Government House amid heightened anticipation. Led by Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, the Madakin Kano and head of the kingmakers, they proceeded to the governor’s office for the crucial appointment process.
Sources indicate that Governor Abba Yusuf is expected to sign a bill that repeals the controversial Kano Emirate Council law. This law, enacted by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, led to the deposition of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi and the division of the Kano Emirate into five separate entities.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-controlled assembly recently voted against the Ganduje-era law on Thursday, subsequently transmitting a bill to Governor Yusuf. Insider reports suggest that Yusuf is poised to sign the bill, effectively reinstating Sanusi as Emir.
The new legislation and the appointment of the next Emir mark a significant shift in Kano’s traditional leadership structure. The Kingmakers’ decision and the governor’s actions will be pivotal in shaping the future of the Kano Emirate
