Abducted Irrua Specialist Hospital CMD freed

Abducted Chief Medical Director of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Prof. Sylvanus Okogbeni, has been set free.

Prof. Okogbeni was abducted last week by gunmen at Ramat Park in Benin City while on his way to Abuja.

During the kidnap operation, ‎two of his police orderlies identified as Sergeants Odion Jonathan Ajibola and Etinosa Erhuegbea, both of Irrua Police Divisional Headquarters, were killed.

‎Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed his release declined to give further details but family sources said he was released last night after ransom was paid.

Meanwhile, workers have resumed at the ISTH following the release of the CMD.

Public Relations Officer of the hospital,  Ernest Ohue, who confirmed this said workers at the hospital were in jubilation mood after news of the release filtered in.

The state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association at a press briefing, expressed condolences to the families of the slain police officers.

Chairman of Edo NMA, Dr. Valentine Omoifo, called for more funding of the police so that citizens could sleep with their eyes closed, adding that an improved Police Force would lead to a low crime rate.
